Regional Fire Operations and Training Center

Regional Fire Operations and Training Center

Orange, California (CA), US
Two story building simulates a strip mall/industrial complex. The main level contains a storage area gas fired burn prop which can be supplemented by use of a non-hazardous mineral-based smoke. The roof houses attic space, roof ventilation/penetration props, and a high walled equipment well.

The Training Tower is a 6 story building with many configurable rooms that can be staged for a variety of training scenarios. Skills training can include high-rise, industrial, commercial, and residential activities.

There are 3 computerized interior burn props including a living room, a bedroom and kitchen.

Environmentally friendly artificial smoke can be pumped through the building. The bedroom prop has specialized window glass that allows viewing of training scenarios from an outside deck.

The nature of the burn rooms allow for the quick turn around of training evolutions. Participants can experience numerous fire attack scenarios in a very short time. Unlike past live fire training, the props are completely controlled by a training officer on site and in close proximity to the evolution being conducted. The system’s manufacturer, Symtron/Kidde Corporation, has a track record of over 2 million firefighters through their systems without one injury being attributed to fire.

Stairwells have standpipes and there is a hazardous materials/high piled storage room, an elevator shaft, and collapsed structure space. Moveable partitions create maze rooms. A helicopter prop projects from the top level of the building and can be used for rappelling. An electrical room prop and sprinkler demonstration area is also located within the building.

Railroad tanker: Used for hazardous materials dome training.

Several dome tops will be fabricated to simulate various types of chemical storage capabilities.

Confined Space Training: A series of manhole covers and 400’ of underground tunnel structures from 60” to 36” in diameter.

Trench Rescue: Two below-grade structures. One trench is for advanced use with rough texture to simulate underground collapse including electrical, gas (air bottle can simulate gas leak), and water pipes that can be filled at high volume with water . The other has a smooth edge where imported materials and tripods can be utilized.

Car Fire: Computerized propane burn prop can be programmed to simulate fire and smoke under the hood, inside the cab, in the trunk, or simulate a gas leak under the vehicle.

Running Fuel Spill: Computerized propane burn prop can be programmed to simulate high flames, heat, and smoke.

Vehicle Extrication Yard: Used for vehicle extrication training and housing of demolished vehicles.

Multi-purpose area: Utilized for parking and miscellaneous training activities.

Hydrants: Realistic hydrant spacing for hose training and use. One hydrant utilizes a pressure reducing valve for Fire Engineer training.

North Property: Large open area adjacent to training grounds for overflow parking, storage, staging, and USAR events.
