Remains of Naval Air Station Alameda

Alameda, California (CA), US
The (former) Naval Air Station Alameda (NAS) is the geographic center of the San Francisco Bay Area and occupies the western one-third of the island of Alameda. Within the Station's four square miles are a major airfield, deepwater port, aircraft and ship maintenance facilities, 1,513 units of family housing and barracks-type housing, industrial, retail, warehouse and recreational facilities.

Note the USS hornet at the pier and the fake highway where the runways cross that was used for filming The Matrix.

This is a favorite site for the Mythbusters program. Many of their programs are filmed there taking advantaged of the lengthy abandoned runway and long shore. Things like the archimedes mirrors, trying to pull the axle off a cop care, exploding wooden cannons, competitive speed contests, and so many more have been tested there.
