"Spring Hill", designed by John R. Pope, was built for Wall Street stock broker, William L. Stow. In 1906, the 160+ acre estate was purchased by Henry Carnegie Phipps. The house was demolished following the death of Phipps' wife, in 1971 (taxes were costing the family 70K a year for the vacant house). In 2004, the estate was sold with plans for a subdivision.
