Roger Taylor's House

Roger Taylor's House

Puttenham, United Kingdom (GB)
The English musician best known as the percussionist, backing vocalist and occasional lead vocalist of the rock band Queen lives here in 'Puttenham Priory'. A singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, best known as a drummer, Taylor was recognised early in his career for his unique sound, and significant contributions to classic Queen recordings. He was voted by radio listeners as the eighth-greatest drummer in classic rock music history in a poll conducted by Planet Rock in 2005.

As a songwriter, Taylor contributed songs to Queen's albums from the very beginning. Lewis was known for composing at least one track on every album, and commonly sang lead vocals on his own compositions. An impressive accomplishment given that his band’s lead singer, Freddie Mercury, had himself one of the most incredible vocal ranges in the history of Rock and was well known for his insistence on recording perfection. Taylor wrote or co-wrote three UK number 1s (These Are the Days of Our Lives, Innuendo, and Under Pressure) and contributed a further five major hits (Radio Ga Ga, A Kind of Magic, Heaven for Everyone, Breakthru, and The Invisible Man). He is also the main writer on the international top-ten hit "One Vision", although the track is credited to the whole band. Taylor’s career didn’t end with Queen, as the artist has gone on to collaborate with such artists as Eric Clapton, Roger Waters, Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant, Phil Collins, Genesis, Jimmy Nail, Kansas, Elton John, Gary Numan, Shakin' Stevens, Foo Fighters, Al Stewart, Steve Vai, Yoshiki, Cyndi Almouzni, and Bon Jovi. As a producer, he has produced albums by Virginia Wolf, Jimmy Nail and Magnum.

In addition to his drum work, Taylor is well known for his falsetto vocal range, and while with Queen Taylor was unable to flex his multi instrumentalism, Taylor was known to play keyboards, guitars and bass on his own songs. While still working with Queen, Taylor formed a parallel band known as the Cross, as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist. Taylor was also a panellist on the popular UK quiz show Pop Quiz, hosted by Mike Read.

Roger Taylor has a net worth of $200 million dollars. Taylor has released five solo studio albums and became the first living person besides the British Royal Family to appear on a Royal mail stamp in 1999.

Queen has had 18 number one albums and 18 number one songs. The band has sold over 150 million records and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Given his contribution to the hugely influential act, Taylor was considered one of the most influential rock drummers of all time. Queen reunited in 2005 with Paul Rodgers on vocals.
