Route 66 Raceway dirt track

Joliet, Illinois (IL), US
This dirt oval track was built in 1998. It features a permanent demolition derby area directly in front of the grandstands.

Once a month, the famous team demolition derby events are held here. It is a local tradition that dates back to the 1950's. Eight teams with each featuring four identically painted cars compete in a tournament to determine a winner. This was held for over 30 years at the nearby Santa Fe Speedway until it closed in 1995.

The oval track has been seldom used. In my only (miserable) visit, the race cars suffered several flat tires due to demolition derby debris scattered throughout the racing surface.
