Rudston Monolith

Rudston Monolith (StreetView)
The Rudston Monolith is a 7,6 metre tall and 1,7 metre wide standing stone situated in the graveyard of the local Norman church in the village of Rudston . The stone is the biggest megalith (standing stone) in the United Kingdom. The stone is thought to be dated from the Neolithic era to the Bronze Age. A smaller stone of similar style is also found in the graveyard which is thought to have been placed closer to the monolith. Both stones are made from gritstone.

There are many other prehistoric monuments in the area, including four cursuses, three of which appear to converge towards the site of the monolith.
