When Pope Benedict dedicated the Church of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona today, he called the modernist work of architect Antoni Gaudi “a magnificent achievement of engineering, art and faith.”
Benedict spoke in his homily about the importance of the family, of beauty, and of bridging the gap between earthly and eternal life.
While the Pope is accustomed to dealing with lots of mysteries, mostly having to do with theology, he walked right by a much more mundane mystery on the façade of the Sagrada Familia.
It’s a magic square of 16 numbers, a kind of code or riddle, and one that has never been solved definitively.
