San Juan de Ulúa

San Juan de Ulúa

Veracruz, Mexico (MX)
San Juan de Ulúa is a large complex of fortresses built by Spain starting in 1565. The fort was associated with a young Francis Drake in 1569 that was almost captured by the Spanish after they called for a truce. This experience is said to have hardened Drake against Spain and Catholicism.
