San Marco

San Marco

Florence, Italy (IT)
Housed in the deconsecrated Dominican convent, the museum is effectively a shrine to one man, Fra´ Angelico, so named for his `gentle personality and mystical art´. As with most things Florentine, the Medici are never far away; it was Cosimo il Vecchio who funded the repair and enlargement of the monastery by Michelozzo, and he who went on to establish a vast library there. It was during this work that Fra´ Angelico himself was working, having already become famous for his work in Orvieto and in the Vatican.
