San Pietro al Conero Abbey

Sirolo, Italy (IT)
On the summit of Mount Conero is the Abbey of San Pietro al Conero in the town of Sirolo. Important point of reference for the Benedictines, Camaldolesi and hermits, built in the characteristic stone of Conero, was completed at the beginning of 1200 and partially remodeled in 1651. The crypt dates from the twelfth century, while the bell tower is of the thirteenth century. Interestingly the interior for the richness and variety of sculptural aspects of the columns with capitals carved red limestone from Istria.
