Located one mile out from Rockport, and quite visible from Back Beach and Front Beach, is the Sandy Bay Breakwater. This is an unfinished breakwater project that was started in 1897. The goal was to complete the 1.5 mile breakwater and protect the bay. The project was abandoned in 1902 because it was too expensive.

Today, the breakwater is a dive site.
