Sharitahrish was principal chief of the Grand Pawnee in the early 1820's (during the Monroe Presidency). His brother, Tarecawawaho was invited by President Monroe for a meeting in Washington (O'Fallon Delegation) but declined as he viewed it to be too great a condescension. Tarecawawaho instead sent Sharitahrish as part of a delegation to visit Monroe.
This painting was completed in 1822 by the artist, Charles Bird King and today is displayed in the White House Library.
