Shuttered Motorola Campus (Birds Eye)
When the plant opened in 1997, it was supposed to be a world-class manufacturing plant. Motorola at the time was the No. 1 cell phone maker and could not keep up with demand. The $100 million, 1.5 million-square-foot facility cellular-phone plant promised to turn Harvard into a boom town. The plant was phased out after Motorola shifted production abroad. Thousands of employees lost their jobs. The property has been shuttered since 2003. Said to have sold for 16.7 million.
