By late March of 2007, this US$20.44 million stadium funded by Communist China, will be open to host quarter final matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. Antiguan cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards was on hand in September 2005 for the groundbreaking. The stadium will have a seven pitches, four of which will be used for the World Cup, and a total of 11,000 permanent seats, expandable by an additional 8,000 for the World Cup.
