Hurricane Agatha and neglected / poor sewer system lines in a depressed neighborhood of Guatemala City combined to create a huge sinkhole, 30m wide by 60m deep (100x200 ft), in the early morning of May 31 2010. Witnesses say that a three-story home was consumed by the subsidence and one resident is presumed dead.
The sinkhole occured at the intersection of 11 Avenida A and 6A Calle in Zona 2.
A previous huge sinkhole that rivals this one in depth hit Guatemala city in February 2007.
