Snaresbrook Crown Court has 20 court rooms and manages in the region of 7000 cases a year making it the largest Crown Court in the United Kingdom. Designed by George Gilbert Scott and William Bonython Moffat the building construction started in 1841 but as an orphanage - not a Crown Court. It continued as an orphanage until 1938 when it became a school and served that purpose until 1971. In 1974 it opened as a Crown Court and has served that purpose ever since. The building is Grade II listed.
