Terence Alan "Spike" Milligan (April 16, 1918 – February 27, 2002), the famous Irish/British comedian, writer and actor lived at Monkenhurst from 1974 until his death. Monkenhurst was built in 1881 and saved from demolition by Milligan who put £10,000 into the Gothic house.
