The architectural remnants of St. Boniface Cathedral (completed in 1908) have been preserved after a devastating fire in 1968. In 1974, a newer smaller cathedral has been built inside the remnants of the former cathedral. The cathedral received the National Award of Honour from the Heritage Canada Foundation for the preservation and integration of the facade.
