Wow. This one was tough. Gehry's first true house. His 1981 addition for the subsequent owners proved to be an incredible turning point for Gehry stylistically (first appearance of the fish and multiple volumes --
picture) but the Bel Air Fine Arts Commission rejected the design for not looking like a house. My how times have changed. Read the link...the relationship with the Smiths soured and they eventually hired Mutlow-Dimster Partnership for the addition.
