Ascension Island hosts one of three ground antennas (others are on Kwajalein and Diego Garcia) that assist in the operation of the Global Positioning System (GPS) navigational system.

No, I went around also and came up empty. In the process of researching, though, I learned Ascension is one of three locations pivotal in configuring Global Positioning Satellites. Perhaps the mysterious circles are antennas.

Okay, I think I've ID'd them. I think what we are seeing are "Ionospheric Scintillation Monitors" for calibrating GPS satellites. Now, what exactly is a "Ionospheric Scintillation Monitor?" For that you will have to see:

And then you'll have to explain it to me, because after reading that I'm more convinced than ever it was spawned by alien lifeforms.

Reading this I can't find a clue to the large (8?) antenna array. According to above pdf it is small. Further pdf about an array on ascension are for sale ??. These kind of antenna's don't look big. Anyone has holiday pictures with local snaps of how it looks.? (Yeah, I was there last week...) unexplained I guess ?

Proposed design
The system should consist of three sites, laid out in a
rough triangle with baselines N-S and E-W. The main
antenna should have a total collecting area of5000 m

ideally lie some 300-400 km apart. The frequency of
operation favoured is 327 MHz, a protected radio band
and thus unlikely to experience serious interference
and ideally suited to observing the solar wind between
40 and 200 R.
The proposed antenna design is a novel combination of
the traditional transit instrument and modern phase-
steered techniques. It produces 32 simultaneous beams
generated in a hierarchical matrix (the "eButler") which
steer together in right ascension. The beams can be
phased to generate either a single "main beam" or two
simultaneous "anti-beams" straddling the meridian and
positioned approximately half-way between the grating
responses of the row - thus allowing most sources to be
observed three times in a day.
