Submerged Railroad

The Springfield, Athol & Northeastern Railroad was finished in 1873 and connected Athol with Springfield, Massachusetts. This branch of the Boston & Albany was abandoned in 1935 when its route through the Swift River Valley was submerged by the Quabbin Reservoir.
