Terracota Army Exhibition

Terracota Army Exhibition

Palma, Spain (ES)
In 2002, the initiators of the exhibition realized the vision of bringing the impressions of the biggest archaeological finding in the 20th century to Europe.

Masterly reproductions of about 150 life-sized terracotta sculptures were manufactured in ancient ovens in Xi'an by using traditional methods. The sculptures embrace figures of infantrymen, generals, officers and archers/bowmen, as well as eight life-sized horses and about 1,000 soldiers in battle formation (as models on a scale of 1:10).

On the basis of excavated remnants, stone figures and drawings designers and specialists reconstructed the clothes of Chinese women, just how they used to wear it thousands of years ago. On the whole, about 15 Chinese figures are presented wearing real hair wigs, which perfectly represent the roughly 2,260-year-old fashion in a spectacular way. After two years of preparation time, warriors, horses, weapons, exhibition models and simply everything that was required for the exhibition, were shipped more than 8,000 kilometers (4,970 miles) from China to Europe in hundreds of wooden boxes. This describes a logistical masterpiece.

The opening night in Europa of one of the most successful exhibitions of our time took place in Frankfurter Palm Garden in 2002. Afterwards the Terracotta Army moved over Munich, Mannheim, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Dresden, Bad Kissingen, Schwerin, Vienna and Prague to Palma de Majorca.
