Description: The Ancient Roman Theater or Théatre Antique at Arles, built during the period of Augustus (27 BC to AD 14), was paved in green and red marble and contained an abundance of sculpture, both relief and free-standing. The Théatre Antique, oriented to the original Roman street grid at Arelate, was one of the earliest of Roman freestanding theaters, with galleries seating up to 10,000 spectators.
