The Garden of Allah (former)

Los Angeles, California (CA), US
Location of The Garden of Allah (former)
The Garden of Allah became a magnet for artistic visitors when they stayed in Hollywood. The facilities included; a hotel, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and a series of bungalows for even more 'Bohemian' guests. Originally built in 1919 as the home of actress Alla Nazimova, it was torn down in 1959 to make way for a strip mall.
Although she has indicated otherwise, many have come to believe singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell was referring to the property’s demolition in her song “Big Yellow Taxi” when she sang:
Don’t it always seem to go

‘Til it's gone

And put up a parking lot
