Description: A landmark white-painted wooden structure with a fabulous view of Monterey Bay, the Giant Dipper has hosted more than 50 million riders since its opening in 1924. The designer, Arthur Loof, said he wanted it to be “combination earthquake, balloon ascension, and aeroplane drop.”. He succeeded. A solid six-story drop begins the double-out-and-back loop ride which covers three large hills, clattering turns, and a dark tunnel.
