The large lizard mural designed by Clearwater artist Silas Beach adorning the west side of the Franklin Exchange Building downtown is known in Tampa's fine art community as "Mona Lisard". Jason Goulde, Outdoor Art Foundation's executive director, says the 80 foot mural can be seen from as far as Tampa International Airport.
"Besides brightening up downtown, we like the fun of Mona Lisa-like eyes following people around as they walk and drive," Goulde said.
The Mona Lisard was photocopied and reproduced on a 40-by-80-foot vinyl mesh. The mural, which is 100 feet above street level and rises to 250 feet, gives the impression a giant green lizard is crawling up the building.
