The Marquee Club was located at 165 Oxford Street, London, England from it's opening in 1958 to 1964. The club moved to 90 Wardour Street in Soho from 1964 to 1988, and it finally closed when at 105 Charing Cross Road in 1996.
The Rolling Stones performed their first concert at the Marquee Club in London on Thursday July 12, 1962.
The band on stage was:
Brian Jones (guitar)
Mick Jagger (vocals)
Keith Richards (guitar)
Ian Stewart (piano)
Dick Taylor (bass)
Tony Chapman (drums)
In 2001, the Marquee name was purchased by a group of entrepreneurs including Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics. The Marquee name was affixed to a new club, located in Islington, but due to financial difficulties, the new club closed a year later.
A new owner, Nathan Lowry, reopened The Marquee in 2004 in London's West End at 1 Leicester Square, but this but this venture also folded within 18 months of opening.
In August 2007, another club using The Marquee name opened once again, on Upper Saint Martins Lane in Covent Garden, and it too closed its doors on 10 February 2008.
