November 1. 2010 a sinkole measuring more than 130 feet wide and 65 feet deep appeared in the middle of the night in a residence area of the German town Schmalkalden. No one was hurt, only a garage was damaged and a car droppen down into the sinkhole.

25 residents in 6 houses had to leave their home.

Experts believe it was because underground water washed away salt, minerals and soil during years.
