The Universal Life Church

Founded in 1959 by the Reverend Kirby J. Hensley and operated out of his garage, The Universal Life Church is best known for offing instant ordination through its web site, and its ministers are able to legally marry people in most states. Hensley believed that the proper religion may differ for each person, and everyone is entitled to choose one's own religion. Between 1962 and 2008, the church sent out almost 18 million ordination certificates worldwide.
