Tower of Es Verger

Banyalbufar, Spain (ES)
La torre del Verger (Verger tower), also known as la torre de ses Ànimes (tower of ses Ànimes), and for residents of Banyalbufar “The Tower” is an old defense tower located on a cliff in the Serra de Tramuntana.

This tower was built in the sixteenth century and was owned for a time by Archduke Luis Salvador, in love with this area. Later in 1995, was restored by the Balearic Government, and since then you can get inside without any problem. Today is declared as a cultural place. It’s a really narrow and small tower, entering only can climb a small staircase leading to the top where there are only about 6 people.

This tower was part of a surveillance system that was implemented in almost the entire coast of Mallorca and allowed to give notice to the island if there was any danger that came by sea. The guards were those who were responsible for these tasks. His job was to give notice of the arrival of enemy ships, pirates and buccaneers mostly, but also of vessels that could enter the island in some form of contagious disease.
