Traces of the Berlin Wall on Liesenstrasse

Traces of the Berlin Wall on Liesenstrasse (StreetView)
The different generations of the Wall left a number of remnants and traces along Liesenstraße. At the eastern end of Liesenstraße a stretch of 'Border Wall 75' remains. Some of the typical breeze-block remnants from the first generation Wall (1961) can be found east of the border crossing station at Chausseestraße. The area around Liesenstraße is otherwise dominated - apart from the visible emptiness of the death strip - by several different sections and versions of the hinterland Wall. Further west, the border crossing station at Chausseestraße once occupied the full width of the street. This crossing extended about one hundred metres into the Eastern sector. Various barriers, but also buildings for official use, such as watchtowers and barracks, were among the installations of the border crossing station. Rooms in the building Chausseestraße 94 were also used - passport control was located here.
