Description: The acronym TYKS is derived from the Finnish name of the hospital, Turun Yliopistollinen Keskussairaala. The local population recognizes the hospital by this short, apt nickname.

TYKS is one of Finland’s five university hospitals. TYKS is the oldest hospital that has operated on a continuous basis since it gained its roots in the 1756 foundation of the Turun Lasaretti hospital.
