This 1/2 mile oval track opened in 1953, hosting a NASCAR Grand National event two weeks after it opened. Herb Thomas won the rain-shortened race. In the 60's, supermodifieds were the featured class, but as the car count dwindled, stock cars became the main event at the track in 1968.
