The USS Dolphin is the Navy's only operational, diesel electric, deep-diving submarine and provides dedicated support for Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation of advanced deep ocean systems and materials. USS Dolphin can carry significant payloads in excess of any other deep diving submersible. It can also maintain extensive onboard laboratory facilities and support sustained operations at sea without support vessels. Employed by both civilian and Navy activities, USS Dolphin's unique design can be adapted to a wide range of projects and attached equipment. USS Dolphin has precision navigation capabilities, bottom imaging, and precision forward-looking sonar as basic capabilities. The project sponsor is normally expected to fund unique modifications required for project support.
