The sculpture is made of fiber concrete, glazed and rough bricks, of which a part is molded.

It was erected in 1990 by PKA, which is the developer and owner of the Vikinggaarden housing complex.

The Viking ship rallies with "foam across the bows" directly from the waterfront into Faaborg Fjord. The ship's mast is residencial flagpole. Stern is missing. It had to be abandoned for economic reasons and was replaced by a stone. The façade facing the port is configured ceramic letters.
