Villa Almone (Birds Eye)
This is Villa Almone, today the residence of German ambassador in Italy. The house was built in 1941 according to the design of architect Gualdi and takes its name from a stream that flows below, already known to Roman historian Suetonius.

The villa's design shows a clear homage to ancient ruins: red brick and travertine, on a modern plan in distributing the spaces rationally. It mixes the German style and Roman measure in its approach. The entry in the Pompeian style introduces the representative halls showing the characteristics of German Gemütlichkeit. Paintings of Mediterranean landscapes are the work of the famous expressionist painter Karl Schmidt-Rottluff.
