Villa dell'Olgiata

Villa dell'Olgiata

Olgiata, Italy (IT)
This is the so-called Villa dell'Olgiata ("villa from Olgiata"), one of the most famous houses on Italian cinema and TV screens, featured in more than 43 productions. Most recently, it was featured in a popular Italian TV series Incantesimo.

The house is situated in a guard-gated posh enclave north of Rome called Olgiata, a community home to many noble families, football players (especially from the football club Lazio, whose training grounds, in Formello, are nearby), and celebrities.

During 1991, the house reached the headlines as a crime scene, when a businessman owner shot his wife over a feud involving money, children and various other disputes. He fired 4 direct shots and was sentenced to 14 years in jail.

After the murder, the villa remained empty for some time, after which the owner gave it to a company who rented it for TV and film productions.

In 1997, it was offered to the newly selected Lazio coach Sven-Göran Eriksson, who was seeking a house in Rome. It was one of the first houses that was suggested to him, but nothing was told of the crime that happened in the villa. The house was called "villa degli orrori" ("villa of horrors") by the inhabitants of Olgiata. Sven-Göran Eriksson agreed to the rental price, but when he found out about what happened in the house a few years earlier, he quickly withdrew from the offer.

After that, the house was empty again and served as the location for many TV series and film productions.

These days, the house is again on sale, for an undisclosed price.
