Villa Madama

Villa Madama

Rome, Italy (IT)
Villa Madama originally built for Cardinal Giuliano de' Medici (to become Pope Clemens VII), came into the possession of "Madama" (i.e. Margaret of Parma, daughter of the Austrian Emperor Charles V, who married Alessandro de' Medici and after his death Ottavio Farnese, Duke of Parma) as did the Medici Palace near Piazza Navona (Palazzo Madama) and the town of Castel Madama and has retained her name. Giulio Romano built it using plans by Raphael.
