Villa Miani

Villa Miani is today one of the few points from which you can admire the city of Rome as well as the Pincio and the Janiculum hills.

Built in 1800, it later became the residence of a noble Venetian family and until the beginning of this century, was considered an exclusive contry house, just outside the vatican walls. In 1875 Garibaldi regretfully turned down the offer to reside at Villa Miani (which would have enabled him to look down upon the Pope in the valley below) as it was far from the Parliament building for the aging General.

Today, Villa Miani is outside and yet inside Rome at the same time. It is located in a large, secluded park, away from traffic; yet, any point of the city below is easily accessible within a few minutes. In this way, Villa Miani preserves its exclusiveness.
