This 8300 seat arena opened in 1999. The main tenants of the building are the American Hockey League's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and arena football's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. Various concerts, shows, and other sporting events are held here regularly.
The original name of the arena was the Northeastern Pennsylvania Civic Arena and Convention Center. It was renamed the First Union Arena in 2000. The current name started in 2003 after First Union Bank merged with Wachovia.
The 2004 Calder Cup was won in this building on June 6 by the Milwaukee Admirals in a four game sweep over the Penguins.
