Weldon Spring toxic cleanup containment cell

Weldon Spring toxic cleanup containment cell

St Charles, Missouri (MO), US
A disposal facility, or cell, is under construction in the area formerly occupied by the chemical plant production buildings. The cell will provide long-term containment and management of the waste materials. It will cover about 45 acres in an area that has been tested to confirm its geological suitability for this use. At its apex the cell will be approximately 75 feet high, and it will contain approximately 1.48 million cubic yards of contaminated material.

The cell will consist of four primary systems: the base liner with leachate collection and removal systems, the contaminated wastes, the clean-fill dike, and the cover systems.
