Willie Nelson's House

Spicewood, Texas (TX), US
Willie Nelson is an American country singer-songwriter, musician, guitarist, author, poet, actor, and activist. He reached his greatest fame during the outlaw country movement (a subgenre of country music that developed as a reaction to the conservative restrictions of the Nashville sound) of the 1970's, but remains iconic, especially in American popular culture. He has acted in over 30 films, co-authored several books, and has been involved in activism for the use of biofuels and the legalization of marijuana.

Born during the Great Depression, and raised by his grandparents, Willie Nelson was musically inclined at an early age, writing his first song at age seven, and joining his first band at ten. He toured locally with the Bohemian Polka in high school as their lead singer and guitar player. He soon found more success while in college (at Baylor University) where he worked as a disc jockey in Texas radio stations and a singer in honky tonks. He dropped out of college shortly after, and signed his first record contract in 1958.

According to Time Magazine, in 2015, Nelson announced plans to launch his own brand of marijuana for recreational users who demand “the best on the market." Called "Willie Weed," it will be launched in both Colorado and Washington, where recreational marijuana was legalized, and has created a booming industry around it and the dispensaries that have licenses to distribute. He plans to partner with growers in both states.

Nelson lives in this sprawling cypress log cabin on 800-acres when not on the road, or at his 2nd home in Hawaii. Another home he owns, but does not reside in, on his nearby golf course, and his Western movie town, Luck (TX), are both also featured on this site.

Willie Nelson's net worth is approximately $25 million.

This is what my Uncle Ofimiano Gutierrez told us boys:
Another interesting story he told us was when he joined the US Army. The Army
was still riding horses in those days and the Gutierrez’s were all good horsemen.
They sent him down to Fort Bliss Texas. That was where he found out that they
had a name for Spanish boys in the US Army. They called them, “Comprado y
pagado.”
This is a carryover from the days leading up to The Great War. The country knew
we were going to get involved in the European conflict. It was only a matter of
time. The Army had a great Idea on how we could prepare the troops. The plan
was presented to President Wilson.
It probably went something like this: “Mister President, I would like to have
maneuvers in northern Mexico. Here is my plan: Lets pay Poncho Villa to ride
across the border and shoot up Columbus, New Mexico. Then we send General
Pershing down there to chase him around Northern Mexico.”
Needless to say, they never found him. General Pershing was able to inspire his
troops since they were actually doing something. Much better than dividing up the
troops into the Blue Army and the Red Army. That’s too much like child’s play.
The Mexicans now had a new name for those guys from the USA. The term Gringo
comes from the American troops sitting around the fire at night singing, “Green
grow the lilacs.”

Willie; Found an article in an OKC Newspaper while doing research for Hughes County Museum in Holdenville, Ok. I'm 84 year old fan of your since you began with rodeo dances in Ada, Ok. Danced a million miles to your music. The last time I went to see you was Shawnee, Ok. casino when you appeared with Kristofferson. You signed an old flyer for me that was from some of your very early appearances. Your drummer, Lucifer, sign me as Fred instead of Fran..we laughed about that. I know that you have preformed and written the most beautiful and lasting music, will live forever, after we both are gone. Don't let the old man in, keep your spirit. Yours, Fran Cook
