World's Largest Poem

On Saturday, January 7th, 2005 DeLotto and Sons installed the newest addition to downtown Tampa’s skyline -- the world's largest poem. “Leviathan”, a 65 foot by 43 foot mural was mounted on the Park Tower Building on Tampa Street across from Lykes Park.

To create this one-of-a-kind piece, the Outdoor Arts Foundation partnered with Tampa Poet Laureate, James E. Tokley, Davis Islands artist Eileen Goldenberg and students from Tampa Preparatory School.

The epic poem titled “Leviathan” tells the tale of a majestic whale and was written by Tokley and modified specifically for this project. Goldenberg used the poem to create an original painting featuring the words of the poem framed on a turquoise background. Fifty students from Tampa Preparatory School, supervised by art teachers Martha DeAmbrose and Kaki King, each created a small drawing inspired by the poem and those drawings serve as the border for Goldenberg’s painting.
