The Cretehawser was one of a number of concrete tugs built just after the First World War when steel was expensive. She was built by the local company Wear Concrete Building Co and served in the Sunderland Docks. She was gutted in 1935 to be used as an emergency breakwater. She was badly damaged during WW2 air raid in 1942 and was towed upstream for safety but sank on the way.
