Wymondham Abbey was founded in 1107 by William d'Albini, Chief Butler to King Henry I as a dependency of the Benedictine monastery at St Albans, but became an Abbey in its own right in 1448. At the dissolution in 1540 the monastic buildings were demolished and it is now the parish church of Wymondham.
