XCOR EZ Rocket

XCOR EZ Rocket

Las Cruces, New Mexico (NM), US
The XCOR EZ-Rocket is a test platform for the XCOR rocket propulsion system. The plane is a modified Rutan Long-EZ, with the propeller replaced by first one, then a pair of pressure-fed regeneratively cooled liquid-fuelled rocket engines and an underslung rocket-fuel tank. The engines are restartable in flight, and are contained within Kevlar armour shielding for safety reasons. The EZ-Rocket is registered as an Experimental Aircraft.

Are you sure ? if I look at http://www.spacedaily.com/news/rlv-01x.html the plane signature doesn't fit full. I am missing the wing tips, the tail and front section and the GE plane looks smaller to me than on the picture of the site. It appears to be some rocket/plane show, did XCOR participate then ?

It definitely was there:

You are right though, the front wing should be further forward. Perhaps this is a Rutan booth at the show.

The aircraft pictured is a piston engine Velocity, with the prop temporarily removed for display as a mockup of the rocket racer. This image was taken during the Xprize Cup event at Las Cruces Airport in October 2006. The Ez-Rocket's only trip to LRU was in October 2005, when it did a total of three flights.
