Je ne parle pas bien français. It was très difficile to just find out that that is the "Stade Municipal" of Penmarch. Very little information on the internet that I could decifer but I was able to after almost half an hour of research just for that alone! I oughta stick with the U.S. - me can read American mucho bueno!!
It was a good Thanksgiving tribute. I liked seein' all those places with the Thanksgiving name in it.
I think a bad precedent could be set by calling any USGS-listed "Populated Place" a city. Like I said, for the U.S. there are a TON of places that are listed as such... but if you just do a few minutes of checking like a simple Google search and/or check factfinder.census.gov you can see how a gazillion "Populated Places" have no zip code of their own, no police department, no...
There's no city there. Not even a town or a village. The U.S. Census lists the population as... oh wait, they don't have Thanksgiving, Maryland in their database. There's no post office which doesn't necessarily mean it's not a town/city... but if you do an internet search for "Thanksgiving, MD" or Thanksgiving, Maryland" you come up with essentially nothing. Why the USGS lists Thanksgiving, Maryland as a populated place is surely a mystery because there's no town there. I'd have to...
Surprised this one wasn't added sooner! It represents true old school baseball, When It Was a Game!!
"It is small consolation to the Brooklyn faithful that their cramped and beloved ballpark became the site of the Ebbets Field Apartments, which were renamed the Jackie Robinson Apartments in 1972, the same year Jackie died."
I'm surprised this wasn't added sooner. Very cool!
FYI: "The original Polo Grounds was built in the 1870s for the sport of polo, thus accounting for its name. The field was originally referred to in newspapers simply as the polo grounds, and over time the designation became a proper name. It was converted to a baseball stadium when leased by the New York Metropolitans in 1880. The stadium was used jointly by the Giants and Metropolitans from 1883 until 1885, and the name stuck...
Not all have a very distinctive red roof such as this one in Fresno. Many are not as isolated as this one is to be able to distinguish it perfectly unless you happen to live in the area and know for sure which building it is in an aerial image. Address mapping isn't always perfect on any internet mapper so truly adding every McDonald's or similar establishment would be a difficult task.
You know who owns those aforementioned ICBMs (International Cheese Burger Mutilaters) ... it's a joint cooperative between Burger King, Wendy's, and Jack in the Box. Hmmm... speaking of which, there's another 34 or so million maps to add to the site!!! I hope no one gets rights on that.
No N-numbers (equal to vehicle license plates) on the Janet planes... unmarked as was said. No N-numbers and if you ask passengers they won't tell you where they're going or where they were... that's if you can even get near a Janet passenger. The Janet parking lot and terminal area is well guarded compared to any normally protected airport in America. Good ol' Area 51 - one of the United States' most secretive places.
I might eat at Mickey D's once a year, maybe once every two years... I actually don't mind their existence compared to some other corporate entities in America. At least they don't run Christmas TV commercials in November... at least not yet. I'm on no mission whatsoever to submit McDonald's maps... but if I come across one like I did while looking over Fresno yesterday, hey, I might send it in. Including all the fast food joints in America on this fine site is something I'd encourage no one...
"Is this an oil refinery, or a dairy, or some other kind of chemical?"
Not sure what's in all those tanks but from a little research I was able to determine the location is 5610 East Olive Ave, Fresno and the E. & J. Gallo Winery does something there. Acres and acres of what having to do with wine?
The AAA League Trappers were moved to Round Rock Texas having their last season in Edmonton in 2004. The Cracker-Cats (www.crackercats.ca) are in the independent Northern League.
Sorry about the pointers, I figured that for some thumbnails it was easier to point out the specific building like for a corporate office or restaurant, hotel, museum... but then for the submitted URL there is no pointer, i did make sure of that.
Before they were bought by Ford, they built this building in Mahwah as their U.S. Headquarters. It was a huge deal at the time for the town of Mahwah that Jaguar was putting their U.S. operations their. After Ford acquired Jag, I guess Jag decided not to move to Detroit to be near their parent company and they kept these offices. I was surprised that they're still there.
You should change both "Pontoon Airplanes" and "poontoon Aircraft" to "Floatplanes" because I can guarantee that not a single owner of ANY of those planes refers to their plane as a pontoon plane!
At least when it was Bank One Ballpark it had the nickname "The Bob." Now will the new nickname be "The Chase"??? The United States is a great country in so, so many ways but truly one of the things that makes America a crappy place is the current culture of corporate naming and renaming and re-renaming and even re-re-renaming of sports and music venues. It's pathetic. Thank God for places like Yankee Stadium, Giants Stadium...
The google map is pretty cool! But I'm a little confused... the news.google.com http above shows absolutely nothing having to do with the Roman ruins in the fields of Italy.
Also the former home to the Miami Dolphins before they moved into Joe Robbie Stadium, err, i mean, Pro Player Stadium, whoops, i mean Dolphins Stadium in northern Dade County.
A few miles south of Charlotte, NC over the NC-SC stateline, this stadium was built to possibly be expanded into a temporary Major League ballpark should Charlotte somehow obtain a team... hasn't happened and no outlook for it to happen.
The stadium is still one of the best in the south for minor league baseball - it's the home field of the Charlotte Knights (http://www.charlotteknights.com) of the International League...
A beautiful downtown minor league park but with a very sad history of its names.
It started out as Pilot Field in 1988. That's a nice, decent, respectable name. Less than three months into the 1995 season it was renamed for a local HMO - North AmeriCare Park. Disgusting. Then the 1999 season saw a new name for the stadium - Dunn Tire Park. Also disgusting.
What a great country America is in so many ways. However the corporate sports and concert venue naming...
Wow. Soldier's been standing since like the 30's? (I could look it up but I'm lazy right now.) Interesting to see that beloved stadium in its renovation state... not really under construction... the Bears played downstate at the University of Illinois in Champaign during the 02-03 season while the stadium underwent a major facelift. The thumbnail looks nothing like the beauty of a stadium it was and it today.
Absolutely the most important addition to this website. I hope everyone in the world agrees and I hope everyone in the world becomes aware of this page. What I need to do in my life is make everyone aware of this and everything MTV Real World related... wait... just kidding... if I was in charge of this fine site and I wanted to make it even better, I'd eliminate this page... but that's just me.
Kinda spooky in a way... an entire subdivision built and removed. I wonder if maybe they didn't actually build homes but used trailers which could be taken down (moved) and then reused more easily.
In March '05, Canadian writer Dave Bidini published a book called BASEBALLISSIMO - From the Inside Flap: "In the spring of 2002, Dave Bidini set off for Nettuno, Italy, with his wife, Janet, and their two small children, in search of his favourite summer game, baseball. Nettuno was his destination because this town, south of Rome, has been the baseball capital of Italy since 1944, when the game was introduced by the American GIs who liberated the region. Bidini wanted to spend time in a town...
It's a shame this venue - the San Diego Sports Arena - has taken on a corporate name... just like Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego (formerly Jack Murphy Stadium) and the new baseball stadium is Petco Park... very sad.

Now I'd like everyone to join in for a sing-a-long, okay? Ready? And a 1, and a 2...
"Here's the story, of a lovely lady," come on, you know the lyrics, "who was bringing up there very lovely girls."

And FYI the town name Mahwah is from an Algonquin term meaning "field," "beautiful" and "meeting place."
Not too far away is a House With Nobody In It.
