Bio:
| From 1969 until 2000, the F&STD conducted 3 to 4 large scale fire test programs per year which provided fire protection/firefighting information used to upgrade fire protection rules and regulations, International Maritime Organization test standards, and firefighting equipment approved for use on merchant vessels and Coast Guard Cutters.
At this time the F&STD has out grown its original intent and reconfigured to meet changing Coast Guard needs. In 2010, the Coast Guard made the decision to return the current test vessel, the STATE OF MAINE, back to the Maritime Administration. In 2011 a decision was made to combine the Navy Research Laboratory (NRL) staff with a USCG liaison and convert F&STD into the Joint Maritime Test Detachment (JMTD).
