Pictured is building TAN-629, a large, 350-foot (106.7 meter-) wide hangar built at Test Area North. More recently (since 1985), this has been known as Specific Manufacturing Capability, which uses depleted uranium to manufacture armor plating for the M1-A1 and M1-A2 Abrams tanks.
The boathouse is named for Blessing of the Bay, the second oceangoing, non-fishing vessel built in what is now the United States. The ship was completed in 1631, very close to this spot.
It's a mistake to think of them as "The Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight." There's a reason why the U.S. government didn't want them brought to open trial. Perhaps too many in high places would have been embarrassed.
CORRECTION:
Anna Chapman was not here. "Richard Murphy" of New Jersey and "Michael Zottoli" of Virginia, two other spies, sat here and complained about espionage.
Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, F. Murray Abraham, Olympia Dukakis, Richard Dreyfuss, Bette Midler, Diane Lane and Nick Nolte were among the actors who performed at La MaMa in its first two decades.
The 1200-seat Ed Sullivan Theater first opened in 1927. CBS has broadcast radio and television productions from this theater since 1936.
It is best known as the longtime home of The Ed Sullivan Show and the site of the first U.S. Beatles performance. Since 1993, it has been the home of the Late Show with David Letterman and is on the list of National Register of Historic Places. The interior has been designated a landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission...
The US Army acquired the site in 1955, according to the GSA, and turned it into a Nike missile launch site, NF-03L. The US Air Force acquired the property in 1966 as Youngstown Test Annex Site for use as a Tropospheric Scatter Radar Link, part of the early warning network that hypothetically would detect Soviet missiles or bombers on their way to North American soil. The site has been closed since 1990.
I was told by one of the crew members on that mission that the orange tail and silver body (seen in the thumbnail) is intended to signify the peaceful, non-military nature of these aircraft in Antarctica.
255 Padgette Street now houses the Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Team, Air Wing, and Civilian Search and Rescue Operations. The Westover Metropolitan Airport Operations, Passenger Terminal, and regional development agencies are also located here.
From Today's Fort Sill website:
"Atomic Annie … was carried to her new home on the Artillery Walk at Randolph and Corral Roads Tuesday morning. The gun, which stood at the top of the hill for many years, was hauled by the Fort Sill Directorate of Logistics to their Paint Shop where she was stripped and repainted for the last month."
Schaller & Weber is one of the few surviving vestiges of what was once a thriving German-American community in Manhattan's Yorkville. The neighborhood has become gentrified and homogenized, losing its ethnic character and charm.
The company's products are sold by independent food shops across the country and are available via the internet.
The alteration becomes more obvious when one zooms in. The surrounding area has good resolution, but the field and military area are diffused. Birds Eye View works for everything but the airport. What's being hidden?
After the shoot, it resumed its role as a storehouse/workshop for Northfield Mount Hermon School, the Abandoned Campus. The barns will become part of C.S. Lewis College.
