We’ve added GeoRSS markup to all of the VGT Maps, Pics and Comments RSS feeds.

What is GeoRSS? Basically, GeoRSS is a normal RSS feed, with geospatial information for each post — latitude and longitude information. GeoRSS is an emerging standard for geocoding RSS content. The great thing about it is that Microsoft, Google and Yahoo are all on board with the standard.

How does this affect you? Well, you can pass any maps feed, such as the VGT’s Latest Maps to your favorite GeoRSS viewer. There are only a couple of viewers at the moment, but I’m sure this will grow over time. Here’s quick list of ones that I found:

Online viewers:

Standalone viewers:

Did you know that all of the States, Countries and Categories all have their own RSS feeds? Just look for the icon.

Since Microsoft, Google and Yahoo all have at least partial GeoRSS support in their APIs, I’m going to be expanding the Map View for maps to support all three.

Are you using GeoRSS in another way? Let us know!
